Monastery of Prophet Elias, close to Pyrgos village is the highest point of the island 565 meters (1900ft) above sea level. It was built between 1711 -1724 and at first it was a men only monastery. The access to women was allowed in 1853. From there you will have a panoramic view of the island and you may meet some of the monks who are still there. Also you can visit the small exhibition of the monastery where you can find old ecclesiastical artefacts.
