Pyrgos Kallistis, the former capital of the island is the most diverse village of Santorini with its medieval architecture. There you will not find the view of Caldera or the luxurious pools but you will have the opportunity to enjoy the real Greek traditional lifestyle and the panoramic view of the island. Pyrgos is built on a hill amphitheatrically, it has a lot of narrow labyrinthine streets, old traditional cave houses, fortified walls and hidden passages to explore. On top of the village proudly emerging are the ruins of a Venetian castle(Pyrgos) from where the village took its name (Pyrgos Kallistis means the most beautiful tower in Greek ).
